Astronomy Friday – Thor’s Helmet
NGC 2359, known as Thor’s Helmet, is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. The central star is an extremely hot Wolf-Rayet type that is believed to become a supernova some time in the near future. The most prominent part of the wispy nebula in this photo is actually one of the “wings” on top of the “helmet”. Can you see it?
