It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
For those of us old enough to live through it all, it seems like we wake up every day and the world that we have known for the last 45 or 50 years has turned completely upside down.
- The President appears to be a Russian agent of some kind and constantly praises Putin.
- The President has admitted to multiple sexual assaults on tape.
- The Republican Speaker of the House and the Republican Senate Majority Leader were informed that the Russians were attacking our democracy and our country and decided to keep that information from the public and do absolutely nothing about it.
- As more and more information emerges that not only did the President’s campaign have an inordinate number of contacts with the Russians but have continually lied about those contacts, even under oath, the Republican Congress does nothing to restrain the President.
- The President has virtually admitted obstruction of justice on multiple occasions, and Republicans in Congress do nothing to restrain him.
- The President is running a global business at the same time he is running the country.
- James Comey, the man who blatantly broke DOJ rules in what arguably was the most important factor in getting the President elected, is now looked upon as an oracular voice against the criminality and corruption of that very same President.
- The Republican party is openly supporting an accused child molester for Senate.
- Much of the world has as much confidence in Kim Jong-un to prevent nuclear as they do in the US President.
- Many of our traditional and staunchest allies no longer look to America for leadership.
- The President continually attacks not only the press but the judiciary and seems unaware or unconcerned about the separation of powers.
- To quote Binyamin Applebaum, “For the first time since the U.S. adopted an income tax, a higher rate would be applied to employee wages and salaries than to income earned by proprietors.”
- Americans would be forced to line up 14 hours ahead of time to get free medial care as if we were a third world country.
- Some Americans would go for weeks without power and clean drinking water, as if we were a third world country.
- One party would win the popular vote and yet lose an election not once but twice.
- One party would refuse to give a hearing to a perfectly qualified nominee for the Supreme Court and yet then go ahead and put a number of unqualified candidates on the federal bench.
- Nazis would be praised as “good people” by the President.
- A policeman would shoot an unarmed man crawling on his hands and knees toward the officer as directed, that this would be recorded and shown to a jury, and the cop would still be acquitted.
I’m sure there’s more that I’ve forgotten. Feel free to add to the list.
